 Headings/Tunnelling

Heading is a horizontal technique where timber sets are used to support a tunnel construction which will on most occasions be hand dug. A timber heading would usually be used when open cut isn’t an option and HDD or auger boring are deemed to be unsuitable. Timber headings could be required for several reasons from access to the services in the tunnel through to connecting into an existing utility system. Rochester Utilities have a team of skilled employees who can undertake and complete heading works.
